MPConvert – Terms of Service
Effective date: 11 October 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and McPeak Bacon ("we", "us", or "our") governing your use of MPConvert for macOS (the "App").
1. Company Name and Legal Entity
McPeak Bacon and McPeak Bacon Software are brand, marketing, and product distribution names used for our apps and services. The business currently operates as the sole trader Bryce Daniel Bacon (ABN 73 321 707 296). When these Terms mention McPeak Bacon, McPeak Bacon Software, "we", "us", or "our", those references mean Bryce Daniel Bacon trading under that ABN, acting under the jurisdiction of the Australian Federal Government, in accordance with those levels of government, down to and including the state government in which McPeak Bacon operates (Victoria, Australia or the Victorian Government).
2. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms, together with our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.
3. What the App Is
The App is a local file conversion utility for macOS. You add files by drag and drop, by opening them with the App, through the optional Finder Quick Action, or by nominating folders for the App to watch. The App then converts those files into a target format you choose and writes the result either alongside the original file or to a folder you nominate.
The App performs conversions on your device using Apple frameworks (such as Core Image, AVFoundation, PDFKit, Core Text, Model I/O and the system archive utilities) and, where you have installed it, third-party software already present on your Mac (see clause 6). The App does not upload your files to McPeak Bacon or to any server, and it has no cloud component.
4. Your Files and Your Responsibility
You retain all rights in the files you convert. You are solely responsible for the files you add to the App and for any converted output, including ensuring that you hold the rights required to copy, convert, or reformat them.
File conversion is inherently lossy or approximate for many format pairs. Converting between formats may discard metadata, layers, embedded fonts, formatting, colour profiles, transparency, audio tracks, subtitles, or other information that the target format cannot represent. Always keep a copy of your original file until you have checked the converted output. If you enable the option to move original files to the Trash after conversion, you do so at your own risk, and you remain responsible for recovering files from the Trash before it is emptied.
If you configure watched folders, the App will act on files placed in those folders automatically, in accordance with the rule you set. You are responsible for the folders you choose to watch and for any files that other people or other applications place in them.
5. Independence and No Affiliation
The App is an independent product. McPeak Bacon is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected to Apple Inc., Adobe Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Autodesk, Inc., the Document Foundation, the FFmpeg project, or any other owner of a file format, specification, or trademark referenced in the App or on this website.
All product names, format names, logos, trademarks, and registered trademarks referenced in the App or on this website are the property of their respective owners, and are used only for identification and descriptive purposes. Such use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.
6. Third-Party Software on Your Mac
For some video and audio formats, the App will, if it finds them, invoke command-line tools that you have separately installed on your Mac (for example, ffmpeg installed through Homebrew). These tools are not part of the App, are not distributed by us, and are governed entirely by their own licences, including open-source licences such as the GNU LGPL and GPL. We make no representation about those tools, and you are responsible for complying with their licences and for the results they produce. Where such a tool is absent, the App falls back to Apple frameworks and the range of supported formats may be narrower.
7. Eligibility
You must be at least the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction to use the App. If you are under the applicable age, you may only use the App with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.
8. Licence and Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download, install, and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, for your personal or internal business use.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the App; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except to the extent permitted by law; remove or alter any proprietary notices; or use the App to breach any law or any third party's rights.
9. Prohibited Use
You agree not to use the App to:
- Convert, copy, or reformat material that you do not have the right to copy, including material protected by copyright, digital rights management, or confidentiality obligations;
- Circumvent, remove, or defeat any technical protection measure applied to a file;
- Create or distribute malicious, deceptive, or unlawful content; or
- Breach any applicable law.
10. Finder Integration and System Changes
If you choose to install the Finder Quick Action, the App writes a small Automator workflow into your user account's Services folder so that "Convert with MPConvert" appears in Finder's right-click menu. You can remove it at any time from within the App's settings or by deleting the workflow from that folder. The App makes no other changes to your system outside its own preferences and the output files you ask it to create.
11. Availability, Updates, and Breakage
Supported formats depend on the version of macOS you are running, the frameworks it provides, and any third-party tools you have installed. Operating system updates may add, change, or remove format support without notice. We may update, modify, pause, or discontinue the App at any time, and we are under no obligation to provide updates, fixes, or continued compatibility.
12. Fees
The App is currently provided free of charge and contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions. If we introduce paid features or editions in the future, they will be clearly identified and governed by any additional terms presented at the time of purchase.
13. No Warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free or uninterrupted, that any conversion will be lossless or complete, or that converted output will be suitable for any particular purpose.
14. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you may have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), including the Australian Consumer Law, or any other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability for a failure to comply with a non-excludable consumer guarantee may be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the App or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.
15. Limitation of Liability
Subject to clause 14, to the maximum extent permitted by law, McPeak Bacon is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss or damage, or for any loss of data, files, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App, including any loss resulting from a failed, incomplete, or lossy conversion, from the "move original to Trash" option, or from the automatic processing of files in a watched folder.
16. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. We may cease distributing or supporting the App at any time. Clauses 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, and 18 survive termination.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Effective date" above will be updated when we do. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria and the Commonwealth of Australia.
