MPConvert – Privacy Policy
Effective date: 11 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how MPConvert for macOS (the "App") handles information. It supplements the general McPeak Bacon Software Privacy Policy.
1. Company Name and Legal Entity
McPeak Bacon and McPeak Bacon Software are brand, marketing, and product distribution names used for our apps and services. The business currently operates as the sole trader Bryce Daniel Bacon (ABN 73 321 707 296). When this Policy mentions McPeak Bacon, McPeak Bacon Software, "we", "us", or "our", those references mean Bryce Daniel Bacon trading under that ABN, acting under the jurisdiction of the Australian Federal Government, in accordance with those levels of government, down to and including the state government in which McPeak Bacon operates (Victoria, Australia or the Victorian Government).
2. Summary
We collect nothing. The App has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no crash reporting. Your files are converted entirely on your Mac and are never uploaded to McPeak Bacon or to anyone else.
3. Information We Collect
None. McPeak Bacon does not collect, receive, transmit, sell, or share any personal information or any file content through the App.
4. Your Files
The App reads the files you add to it only for the purpose of converting them, and writes the converted output to the location you choose (next to the original, or a custom folder you nominate). File contents are processed in memory and in a temporary working folder on your Mac, which the App clears when a conversion finishes. No file, filename, thumbnail, or metadata is sent off your device by the App.
If you enable "Move original file to Trash after conversion", the App moves the source file to your macOS Trash after a successful conversion. It does not permanently delete anything; you control when the Trash is emptied.
5. Information Stored On Your Device
The App stores the following locally, in its own preferences on your Mac. This data never leaves your device.
- Conversion preferences — your output location setting, the custom output folder you chose (if any), quality and compression presets, and the "move to Trash" setting.
- Watched folders — the list of folders you have asked the App to monitor, together with the target format rule for each one.
- Finder Quick Action — if you install it, a small Automator workflow named "Convert with MPConvert" is placed in your user account's Services folder so it appears in Finder's right-click menu.
You can delete all of it at any time by removing the App, its preferences, and the Quick Action workflow. The App also provides a control in its settings to remove the Quick Action.
6. Folder Access and Watched Folders
The App only reads folders and files that you explicitly open, drop onto it, send to it via the Quick Action, or nominate as a watched folder. When a folder is watched, the App observes that folder for new files so that it can convert them automatically according to the rule you set. Watching stops as soon as you remove the folder from the list.
7. Third-Party Tools on Your Mac
For some audio and video formats the App may invoke command-line tools that you have separately installed (for example, ffmpeg via Homebrew). Those tools run locally on your Mac, receive only the file being converted, and are governed by their own licences and behaviour. The App does not download, install, or update any such tool.
8. Network Access
The App does not make network connections of its own. It contains no update checker, no licence server, no remote configuration, and no cloud conversion service.
9. Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising
The App contains no analytics SDK, no tracking pixels, no advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting, and no third-party marketing code of any kind. We do not build profiles of users and we do not perform any tracking across apps or websites. The App's privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children under the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because the App collects no information at all, no such information can be held by us.
11. Security
Your files and preferences are protected by the security of your macOS user account and the file system permissions of your Mac. As no data is transmitted to or held by McPeak Bacon, there is no McPeak Bacon-side store of your information that could be breached.
12. Your Rights
Australian privacy law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), gives you rights to access and correct personal information held about you. Because we hold no personal information about App users, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, or erase.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" above will be updated when we do.
