Media Vault – Legal
Terms of Service & Privacy Policy for Media Vault on macOS and iOS.
Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 11, 2026
Applies to: MediaVault for macOS and MediaVault for iOS/iPadOS (together, the "App")
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and MediaVault ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the App. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
If the App is downloaded from the Apple App Store or Mac App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) also applies. Where these Terms are silent, Apple's standard EULA governs; where these Terms provide more protection to you, these Terms govern.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules. You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the App.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or these Terms.
2. Your Content
- Ownership. You retain all rights to the photos, videos, documents, and other content you import into the App ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership of Your Content.
- Local storage. Your Content is stored on your devices. We do not host, access, or back up Your Content. You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of Your Content.
- Lawful use. You represent that you have the rights to any content you import, edit, or transfer with the App, and that your use of the App will not infringe the rights of others or violate any law. You may not use the App to store or distribute unlawful content.
3. Device-to-Device Transfers
The App allows you to transfer media between your own Mac and iOS devices over your local network. You are responsible for:
- Ensuring both devices belong to you or that you are authorized to transfer the content.
- The security of the local network you use for transfers.
4. Purchases, Subscriptions, and Free Trials
The App offers optional paid upgrades processed by Apple through the App Store:
- MediaVault Premium (iOS): a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks unlimited items and albums.
- MediaVault Pro (macOS): an auto-renewable yearly subscription, which may include an introductory free trial (e.g., 7 days).
Terms for auto-renewable subscriptions:
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, or at the end of any free trial period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price shown at purchase.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions on iOS, or App Store > Account Settings on macOS).
- Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Prices are shown in the App via the App Store and may vary by region. We may change prices for future billing periods; you will be notified in accordance with App Store policies and may cancel before the change takes effect.
All billing, refunds, and payment disputes are handled by Apple under Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
5. Free Tier Limits
The free version of the App may impose limits (for example, a maximum number of items or albums). These limits, and the features included in paid tiers, may change over time. Content you imported while within the free limits remains accessible.
6. Updates and Availability
We may release updates, modify features, or discontinue the App or any feature at any time. Updates may be required for continued use. We do not guarantee that the App will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, or that it will be compatible with any particular device or OS version.
7. Intellectual Property
The App, including its software, design, graphics, and trademarks, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the license in Section 1, no rights are granted to you.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT YOUR CONTENT WILL NOT BE LOST OR CORRUPTED. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR CONTENT.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by applicable consumer law (including the Australian Consumer Law) that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP AND ANY IN-APP PURCHASES IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
10. Termination
These Terms remain in effect until terminated. Your rights under these Terms terminate automatically if you fail to comply with them. Upon termination, you must stop using the App and delete all copies. Sections 2, 7, 8, 9, and 12 survive termination.
11. Apple-Specific Terms
If you obtained the App from Apple's App Store, you and we acknowledge that:
- These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- In the event of any failure of the App to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or similar claims.
- In the event of a third-party claim that the App infringes intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of such claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of your country or state of residence to the extent required by applicable consumer law; otherwise, by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective Date" and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 11, 2026
Applies to: MediaVault for macOS and MediaVault for iOS/iPadOS (together, the "App")
MediaVault ("we", "us", "our") is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your media stays on your devices. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is used, and the choices you have.
1. Summary
- We do not collect your personal data. MediaVault has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs.
- Your media never leaves your devices except when you explicitly transfer it between your own Mac and iOS device over your local Wi-Fi network.
- All processing happens on-device. Photo, video, PDF, and text editing is performed locally.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Media files (photos, videos, PDFs, text files) that you import into your vault.
- Library metadata (albums, collections, projects, file names, edit parameters, thumbnails).
- App settings and preferences (e.g., view options, premium entitlement status).
This data is stored inside the App's private container (and, on macOS, in locations you choose). It is not transmitted to us or to any third party. If you delete the App, this data is deleted with it (subject to your device backups).
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Names, email addresses, or contact information
- Location data
- Usage analytics or diagnostics
- Advertising identifiers
- Contacts, messages, or browsing history
- The contents of your media library
The App's App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected."
4. Device Permissions
The App requests the following permissions, used solely for the stated purpose:
- Camera (iOS): Used only to scan documents into your vault when you choose to do so. Images are processed and stored on-device.
- Photos – Add Only (iOS): Used only to save edited photos to your Photos library when you tap "Save to Photos." The App does not read your Photos library through this permission.
- Local Network (macOS and iOS): Used only to discover and connect your own devices on the same Wi-Fi network (via Bonjour, service
_mediavault._tcp) so you can transfer media between your Mac and iPhone/iPad. No data is routed through the internet or any external server.
You can revoke any permission at any time in System Settings (macOS) or Settings > Privacy & Security (iOS). Related features will stop working, but the rest of the App is unaffected.
5. Local Network Transfers
When you use the Mac ↔ iOS connect feature:
- Transfers occur directly between your devices on your local network.
- No media, metadata, or identifiers are sent to us or any third-party server.
- The connection is only active while you are using the feature.
You are responsible for ensuring you trust the local network you use for transfers.
6. Purchases
In-app purchases and subscriptions (e.g., MediaVault Premium / MediaVault Pro) are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We do not receive or store your name, billing address, or payment card details. Apple's handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
The App stores only an anonymous entitlement flag on your device to unlock premium features.
7. Children's Privacy
The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). The App is not directed at children and contains no third-party advertising or external links intended for children.
8. Data Security
Because your data never leaves your devices (except for direct local-network transfers you initiate), the primary security controls are those of your device: device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and full-disk encryption provided by iOS and macOS. We recommend keeping your devices updated and protected with a passcode.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
All data is retained on your device until you delete it. You can:
- Delete individual media files, albums, collections, or projects within the App.
- Delete all App data by uninstalling the App.
We hold no copies of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on a server.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California, Australian Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. Because we do not collect or hold any personal data about you, these rights are exercised directly by you on your own device as described in Section 9. If you believe we hold any personal data about you, contact us using the details below.
11. Third-Party Services
The App relies on Apple platform services only:
- App Store / StoreKit — purchases and subscription management.
No other third-party SDKs or services are integrated.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this document and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
